Lithgow Golf Club champion Harry Bender again showed why he is at the top of the tree of the club’s best golfers following a six under par 66 off the stick score during the club’s Saturday two ball best ball event. Bender (+2) was the dominant partner when he joined with Trent Young (21) who is a relatively newcomer to competition golf with the pair amassing the big score of 49 points to take out the winning voucher. Bender’s round saw him rip off five birdies on the front nine and then added an eagle on the back nine while Young was solid contributing nine points to the big total.
Runners up was the team of Neil Hutchinson (20) and Ken Mitchell (9) with a score of 46 points. Hutchinson was in good form with a personal score of 39 points.
A single event was held in conjunction with Pat Wall (14) jumping out of the blocks to record a score of 22 points on the front nine which included two birdies and then added a further 18 points on the back for a score of 40 points. Runner up on a countback was Blake Goldspink (2) who is one of the best young talents in the club. Goldspink finished with a one par 71 to give him 39 points.
Vouchers went to those with 43 points or better and they were Paul Bailey, Geoff Wheeler, Kel Lampton, Chris Keller, Blake Bender, Riley Cameron, Brodie Carter, Mitchell Wallace, Damien Marjoram, Julie Murnane, Heidi Inwood, Carlos Garibotto, Max Nightingale, Ian Downey, James Bennett, Anthony Oldfield, Andrew Burton, Corey Osborne, Warren Kennedy, Don Wolfenden, Dennis Wallace and Peter Haley.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Trent Young (86cms); 4th Justin Nelson (138 cms); 9th Troy Luka (350cms); 13th Harry Bender (410cms) and 18th Darren Hunter (118cms).
Wednesday PFD Food Services nine hole competition:
Winner was Chad Osland with a score of 19 players into.
Chris Goodsell was runner up on 17 points counting out third placed Brian Judge who also had to survive a countback.
Vouchers went to Paul Bailey, Dave Warren, Dave Muir, Geoff Houlison, Craig Pugsley and Trent Young. Cut was 14 points on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were: 9th Ken Durie (316cms) and 18th Geoff Houlison (287cms).
Friday Central West Leak Detection and Plumbing nine hole competition:
Winner was Darren Hunter on a countback from runner up Blake Goldspink with both carding scores of 21 points.
Nathan Mitchell was this on 20 points.
Vouchers went to Luke Bennett, Mitchell Luka and Paul Stewart. Cut was 19 points ocb.
Nearest to the pin on the ninth was John Bird (266cms).
Next Saturday’s event (March 8 ) will be a medley stableford and on Monday (March 10) will be the Vets Monthly 18 hole stableford.
