Considering the Lithgow Golf Club’s greens were undergoing their yearly maintenance that saw loose sand spread over the serrated surfaces there were some excellent scores recorded by the grade winners and runner ups.
The event was the October monthly medals and the event was again sponsored by Henry Plant & Equipment Hire and a big congratulations goes out to long time sponsor Justin Henry and his lovely new wife Lisa who tied the knot recently.
The best score of the day came out of B grade with Les Goldspink (11) having a bid day out with a score of 63 nett to take the winning voucher and the B grade medal. It was one of Goldspink’s best ever rounds scoring 38 on the front nine and 36 on the back. His round saw him score three birdies and he said: “I wouldn’t mind having sand on the greens every week, you just have to aim straight at the hole and hit it hard.” Runner up to Goldspink was Dave Warren (14) with the second best score of the day, a 66 nett which would usually be enough to win.
Justin Nelson (2) again showed great consistency to win the A grade medal and voucher with a score of 69 nett. Nelson recorded 17 pars and one birdie in what was an outstanding effort on the inconsistent greens. Runner up on a countback was Max Nightingale (9) with a mixed round that saw him finish with 71 nett.
C grade saw the “battle of the Murnane’s” with older brother Leo (19) getting the better of younger brother John (21).
The brothers will play off next month for the October medal.
Vouchers went to Rob Peachman, Brad Preston, Josh Jones, Don Wolfenden, Dave Titcume, Blake Goldspink, Troy Luka and Deanna Goodsell. Cut was 71 nett ocb.
Nearest to the pins were Anthony Oldfield, Don Wolfenden, Paul Bailey, Heidi Inwood and Max Nightingale.
